Check You! uses physical data visualization and digital fabrication to show the control and power between China and the US. The hope is that the trade war will not become a real war. The chess display is made with economic data from the United States and China. This data shows the economic growth of both countries within the past 30 years.The pawn represents total population;
the rook is the exports within China/US;
the knight is customer index price;
the bishop is GDP;
the queen is military expenditure;
the king is GDP growth.Additionally, the Chinese chess set contains cannons which used the USD/RMB rate since Trump became the president.
The board displays world conflict data (battles and wars) between 1989 to 2018.The rectangle was the battles between 1989 to 2003, the ellipse was the battles between 2004 to 2018. The size of the shape depended on the death numbers of each battle.
